Jason,

I wasn't aware of this sniffer tool for Sybase. It sounds promising.
Surprisingly many of the DBAs I've spoken to were also unaware. And don't
get me started on how Sybase's website can be challenging to search
sometimes.

Can you by chance point me to some docs on this tool? Anything you can
tell me of your personal experiences might be of help too.

Could be running an invalid command or something that would cause a
disconnect. Put Ribo inbetween the server and the perl script. You
should be able to see who disconnects first and why.

Hi Todd

Ribo's been around for a while - it's in the jConnect package (look in the
jutils-2_0 directory).

Feel free to contact me if you need more info...

Michael,

Yes I realize it's in the dir. I was hoping for docs/personal experiences
to know if it's a pain in the ass and even so, if it's worth pursuing or
not. Is it prod safe? Etc.

Setting up ribo isn't difficult (it's a matter of setting the
JAVA_HOME and RIBO_HOME env. variables), but it's not something I'd
really use in a production environment.

I find it useful from time to time to understand what goes on at the
protocol level. I'll dig up the docs and a usage example when I get to
work later this morning.
